【Speech】How does media get made?
John Murn was a guest speaker at International Marketing Class on April 20th and provided students with insider’s view on media world and explained how is media made, by whom and where.
Mr. Murn came to Taiwan more than 7 years ago and tried himself in different jobs: from English teacher to finally finding his place in media world.
Upon the end of the seminar:
- students identified what are the differences and similarities between creative agencies, production houses and media agencies;
- what is the process of design production;
- why is it important to invest in evaluation of media and its effectiveness;
- activity in groups taught students the negotiation skills, anticipation of potential difficulties and challenges in media world
The seminar was informative and useful not only for those interested in advertising industry, but also working in Taiwan, because John kindly shared his experience and gave very valuable advices:
- if you have a goal to find a job - don’t spend time, be persistent: send out your CV to as many companies as possible and don’t be upset if your first pay is less than you expected.
- networking is everything – make connections: talk to people, go to events, seminars, workshops, apply for internships even if they are not related to your area of interest. Why? Because you MEET PEOPLE! Those people who can become you colleagues, employers or even employees in future!
